Angelina Jolie is entering the world of superheroes and joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she is officially set to star in next year’s The Eternals. In a new interview, the Oscar winner revealed that no one is happier about her surprising new role than her six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox.

Jolie will play the ancient superhero Thena, a superhuman with super strength, speed, agility, and reflexes. Starring alongside Jolie is Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanijani, and Richard Madden.

The 44-year-old explained to People Magazine that her kids aren’t necessarily excited about the fact that their mom is in the new movie, but they are happy that she will be having fun and playing a strong character.

“What’s really moving to me is that they want to see me strong,” said Jolie.

She admits that the role has already required a ton of physical work, with her training covering “everything from swords to ballet.” Jolie calls her character “a warrior,” and she understands that she will have to work hard to give the MCU the Thena they deserve.

Chloe Zhao will be directing The Eternals, and Jolie says that Zhao will make a special Marvel film and she hopes that they add something new.

The actress has thrown herself into her work after her and ex-husband Brad Pitt finally came to a custody agreement for their children late last year. Not only is Jolie shooting The Eternals, but she is also producing The One and Only Ivan, which will hit theaters in August 2020, and she is starring in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which will premiere later this year. Jolie also recently wrapped filming on Those Who Wish Me Dead.

In addition to her numerous film roles and projects, Jolie is also working on a global current affairs TV program for children. Her kids are helping with the project, and Jolie is partnering with the BBC.

“We enjoy reading the kids pullout of the New York Times and look at National Geographic,” says Jolie. “But, as a parent, I felt there wasn’t that one vetted and reliable internationally-minded news program tailored for children that we could sit down and watch together each week. That is what I hope this will be for our family and other families.”
