Candace Cameron Bure's 'traditional marriage' remarks cause controversy

Hollywood's LGBTQ+ community is receiving support from members and allies, including one of Candace Bure's former co-stars, after the Fuller House actress provoked outrage with a remark about making stories that focus on "traditional marriage."

Cameron Bure discussed how the projects she will be working on for the Great American Family network (GAF), a Christian-based network, will differ from the increasingly diverse programming that can be found on her former network, the Hallmark Channel, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that was published on Monday.

"I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core," said Cameron Bure.

Online backlash for her comments

Online criticism of the statement immediately gained momentum, and Jodie Sweetin, a former Full House co-star of Cameron Bure, even came out in support of JoJo Siwa after the Dance Moms alum called the statement "rude and hurtful."

"Honestly, I can't believe ... she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press," she wrote on Instagram. "This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people."

In response to Siwa's post, Sweetin posted the comment: "You know I love you."

Cameron Bure's remarks, according to Holly Robinson Peete, who has also been in a number of Hallmark movies, are "disappointing but not surprising."
